To revamp this model Cuisinart reshaped the shaft - the spinning bit on the base and added small protrusions on the bowl platform. Fortunately I was able to solve the flaw myself and have not experienced any further difficulties. I was fed up with repacking and schlepping the returns and also trying to live without one. And then it wouldn’t work! I was constantly hunting for it - afraid it would end up in the garbage grinder and I would be left with another expensive piece of junk. Every time I lifted the lid off, the small white trigger would quietly drop out and disappear - on the counter, down the drain, behind the pile of vegetable cuttings, etc. It’s the size my recipes work best with and it fit the space under my counter where it’s predecessor sat. After some research, which revealed an acknowledged design flaw in the trigger mechanism, I found if I placed my hand on the trigger side and pushed down it occasionally turned on. The second worked only once and then stopped. We all know the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result? I was not too thrilled about getting a third one - same model. After about a month of effort, I am on my 3rd new DLC-8SY!. Sadly it died after such long and faithful use every day. I take them ALL away if the rating is about purchase experience.įirst let me say I had an original Cuisinart DLC 8 for 40 odd years and I am a fan. I give it 5 stars for being a miracle with food prep, I take one star away for the the plastic eventually cracking or it falling apart. The plunger is black instead of white, which is a change I had not noticed. I have smaller ones with this base color and it is not my favorite. This one: I thought the front was stainless or chrome and instead it is brushed chrome which means it looks like gray spray paint. I have had five of the larger size (9, 11, 14 cup )and I have several small. At that time I worked and cooked in a gourmet food store. I have had a Cuisinart food processor since 1974. To send it back I would lose the courtesy part of the payment so there was no point in stopping the shipment and reordering it. I can see a 5 or even 10 dollar difference but NOT this amount. Amazon would not credit the difference back to my account. What a huge price difference in ONE DAY of ordering it. The price changed from 174.99 + tax to 139 within a day. What started off as a happy purchase turned into an unhappy purchase.
